About the Conference

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Asia Pacific Smart Card Association (APSCA) will host the 5th Conference on Technical Cooperation & Capacity Building for Border and Identity Management on 11-13 December 2018 in Bangkok, Thailand. The international event is the largest gathering of National Government Authorities including Immigration, Identity, Border Control, Civil Registration, Customs, population management and other agencies with responsibilities in the area of Migration, Border and Identity Management in Asia. The conference is targeted at Government officers with these responsibilities in their respective countries including representatives from Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Ministries of Interior, Justice and Public Security Agencies, Immigration and National Registration Departments, and more!

              

Objective and Theme

The overall objective of the Conference on Technical Cooperation & Capacity Building for Border and Identity Management is to keep supporting improvements in border and migration management in the Asia and the Pacific region, with a specific focus on fostering identity governance through closer consultation and cooperation between national authorities responsible for migration management, border control, national civil registry, identity issues and their key international partner organizations.

This year's conference theme is Alternative Approaches to Border and Identity Management. The conference will have 4 different platforms for sharing of information, experiences and new developments. These are:

  • Conference official opening and plenary session
  • Four workshops following the plenary sessions
  • 3-day exhibition of Border and Identity Management systems, equipment & document security
  • A forum for networking and information exchange
